There is an updated version of this toy here

One of last year's best-selling Christmas toys was the Leapfrog LeapPad Explorer. This hugely popular toy is a multimedia tablet designed exclusively for use by children.

With Christmas 2012 fast approaching us, Leapfrog have now announced that there will be an updated LeapPad Explorer available this year called the LeapPad Explorer 2.

The LeapPad 2 contains updated features as well as a new range of learning activities alongside plenty of fun and entertaining things for children to do.

What are the main features of the LeapPad2 Explorer?

Here is a list of the main features of the LeapPad 2:

  • The LeapPad 2 is recommended for children aged from 3 to 9 years
  • The LeapPad 2 features increased resolution (2 megapixels) front and back cameras as well as video recorders. The addition of the new front facing camera means children can easily take self portraits of themselves
  • The LeapPad Explorer 2 features a faster processor (a 550Mhz processor up from a 400Mhz on the original LeapPad Explorer) and so has the ability to run games and other activities at a much faster speed
  • The LeapPad 2 features increased storage space and now contains 4GB of storage as oppose to the 2GB on the original LeapPad Explorer. This means there is more storage available for apps, books, games and photos
  • The LeapPad 2 has an improved battery life which means batteries will last much longer
  • The LeapPad  2 has a unique design that is durable and very child friendly

Is the LeapFrog LeapPad 2 a good toy for my child?

This is the perfect toy for all those children who are interested in technology, especially those who have taken a shining to their parent's iPads! The LeapPad 2 is a child friendly tablet that is safe, durable, fun and educational.

The LeapPad 2 features a vast range of games and downloadable apps will keep your child entertained for many hours.

The LeapPad 2 is not only fun but also an educational toy that teaches children curriculum based learning. It is able to continuously adjust to suit every child's pace of learning to ensure they are always challenged.

The verbal instructions on the LeapPad 2 encourage children to learn and try different activities. Children can also record their own voice as they read which allows parents to hear them. The LeapPad screen is also designed to help children to learn  to write.

Parents are able to keep an eye on their child's learning progress in the online LeapFrog Learning Path. This even means that parents have the ability to show off their child's learning achievements and artwork to their family and friends.

What do other customers think?

Unfortunately it appears that some customers are unhappy about the release of the new and updated LeapPad 2 as they have recently purchased the original LeapPad.

However, these things do happen and we feel sure that once the LeapPad 2 is released there will be plenty of happy customers with good reviews.

"I'm not  a happy bunny. I went everywhere to get a LeapPad for my daughter for Christmas and then it was slow, which really annoyed me (and my 5 year old) and now they go and release an updated version and the one I have is worthless." Sammy

In Summary

Innotab 2, the popular rival to the LeapPad 2 is also soon to be released in time for Christmas 2012. It will have its own camera included and will be direct competition for the LeapFrog 2. However, major retailers such as Tesco believe that the LeapPad 2 will be the top selling toy for Christmas 2012.

We think that for all those who are already planning on buying their child a LeapPad 2 for Christmas this year then it might be wise to reserve one very soon!

On the down side there is still no wireless connection to be found on the LeapPad 2 which means users still need to connect the toy to a computer to load new content such as games and apps on and off.

For all those parents looking for a child's version of the iPad it is worth remembering that the overall look and feel of the LeapPad 2 is completely different to that of the iPad.

This is because the LeapPad 2 is designed to provide a fun, exciting and unique experience for children whilst parents can relax safe in the knowledge that they are enjoying the world of computers in a safe and stimulating way.

Of course, the best part for parents is that it means that they can have their iPads back!
